Description

In December we discussed the differences between bank accounts and LGIP alternatives. In January we will move the discussion to Money Market Funds and other Short Term Investment alternatives. This session will discuss the fundamentals of money market funds and which funds comply with California Government Code. We will discuss key differences between Money Market Funds and Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) alternatives. We will cover how money market funds and evolved since the reforms of 2016 and what alternatives exist. We will discuss alternative strategies for conservative investment portfolios and methods to increase yield while still complying with the state investment code.

  • Identify key difference between money market funds and other Code-permitted alternatives
  • Discuss how have money market funds changed since reforms of 2016
  • Describe managed account alternatives that comply with state investment code

Speaker: Kevin Waldeck, Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, Investment Management

Kevin is a senior member of the Institutional Liquidity team responsible for maintaining the relationships of MSIM’s liquidity and fixed income clients throughout the northwestern United States. He joined Morgan Stanley in 2010 and has 25 years of industry experience. Prior to joining the Firm, Kevin was a regional director for Wells Capital Management's Institutional Liquidity Team and a senior vice president for Wachovia Bank's Evergreen Investments Institutional Liquidity Team, with over seven years focused on the corporate liquidity market.

Previously, he served as a Regional Director for SEI Investments' Money Manager Outsourcing division, and as a vice president for Wells Fargo Bank's mutual fund division.

Kevin received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Finance from the University of Southern California
